In addition to the regular data collection occurring on the limited number of focal species observed by a community or program, sighting reports on other wildlife, subsistence resources and environmental phenomena and anomalies can be recorded. Such opportunistic sightings, if done in a reliable and consistent manner, can provide a valuable database over time. As is the case with observations of the Focal species, the data will become increasingly valuable the longer it is collected in a consistent manner. The observation methodology below is brief and not intended to replace a full observation protocol for a species of special interest. This information and detailed field data sheets can be download and printed in the BeringWatch Citizen Sentinel Log Book.
