    Sentinel Monitoring

Map of a portion of the Aleutian Islands, Alaska. Current (St. Paul Island, King Cove, False Pass, Akutan, Unalaska) and previous (St. George Island) BeringWatch communities are indicated with yellow triangles.

BeringWatch Community Monitoring Programs are established using observation protocols and standardized methodologies for community-based recording of observations of wildlife, subsistence species and environmental phenomena at various locations throughout the Bering Sea and Aleutian Islands. These data, if collected in a repeatable and consistent manner over a long period of time, can provide valuable ecological reference points for the region.

The following communities have participated in the development of BeringWatch over the last decade:

    St. Paul Island

    St. George Island

    King Cove

    False Pass
